Gregory W. Lathrop, D.V.M. (Practice Owner)
Dr. Lathrop graduated from the Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. He has been promoting the human-companion animal bond at Powell Boulevard Veterinary Clinic since 1983. Greg has built his clinic successfully, following only two other veterinarians that preceeded him. Since the clinic has been here for more than 80 years, we have multi generations coming to us for their pets' needs.
Greg is the clinic's dental guru. He has done root canal therapies on pets and has even fit a dog for braces! When away from the office, Greg enjoys camping and fishing with his four children and 2 dogs. His wife and two cats enjoy their quiet time when the rest of the family ventures into the great outdoors.
Veterinarians
Zoe Tokar, D.V.M.
Dr. Tokar received her degree in Veterinary medicine from Oregon State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. From the earliest wellness care to complex geriatric issues, Dr. Tokar practices progressive medicine and will cheerfully discuss the best options for your pet.
Zoë says she considers herself so lucky to have found a career that combines the science of animal health, the art of compassion, and the beauty of the human-animal bond. Her goal is to provide progressive medicine and wellness care for your pet, guided by clear lines of communication, a thorough physical exam and the necessary diagnostic testing. Her special interests in Veterinary medicine include all things feline, anesthesia/pain management, and ear and dental health. Her time off work generally involves hiking with her dog Willy, gardening, classical music, or scooping the litter boxes of her 3 indoor cats!
Katy Felton, D.V.M.
Dr. Felton grew up in the Dalles, Oregon. She says she has always had a love of animals, especially those who needed to be rescued or adopted. At one point she had 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 4 ducks and 3 chickens! Talk about "understanding" parents!
She attended her undergrad at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon (another small town) and received her degree in Biology while simultaneously working as a Veterinary Technician. Dr. Felton then spent 4 years working with Canada Geese, Salmon, Steelhead and desert tortoise before finally deciding that Veterinary medicine was her true passion. Dr. Felton attended Veterinary school at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon (another small town!?!?!?)
Still notorious for rescuing pets Dr. Felton recently rescued a pygmy goat named Abbey and gave her to her father for Father's Day. She is currently living with 2 cats (rescues of course), her sweetie and best friend Alex, and she is looking forward to rescuing a Greyhound in the near future.
Dr. Felton's hobbies are tennis, jogging, camping, playing the piano, wine tasting, spending time with her family, and TENNIS. (Did we mention that she really likes tennis?)
Levi Klau, D.V.M.
Dr. Klau grew up in rural upstate New York, and attended Veterinary school at Ohio State University. He is proud to announce he has just finished a grueling internship at Dove Lewis Emergency Hospital here in Portland. When asked for his view of the future in private practice Dr. Klau says, "I'm looking forward to making lasting relationships with my clients, and regularly dealing with problems of a bit less emergent nature. My interests include ophthalmology and radiology, and I'm eager to increase my experience in both."
Outside of work, Dr. Klau likes riding and working on old bicycles, (although he adamantly insists he has yet to purchase any spandex!) When he's not biking or practicing medicine he also likes going to rock shows, dance parties, and just walking around town and discovering new restaurants and shops. When asked what he likes best about the PDX area, he says he loves the environmentalism, vegetarian options, and overall laid-back feeling of Portland.
Welcome to PBVC Dr. Klau!

Denise
Denise is on her second tour as an employee of PBVC; she worked here in 1996 during the "great remodel" as a technician, and she is back again as an assistant manager.
Prior to working at Powell the first time Denise moved to Vancouver from the Skagit Valley, (where she was born and bred) so she could attend the Veterinary Technician program at PCC in 1992. She liked it so much that she's STILL in the Greater Portland area! To add to the technician degree she also has collected both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Business Management from Concordia University.
When she's not going to school or working Denise enjoys hanging out at home with her beloved pets: Edge (Kitty McBiscuit), Hewson and Rosie, or going to the barn to ride her horse Firenze. She also enjoys movies, television, the band U2, surfing the net, road trips and U2...whups, did we say U2 twice? (Not an accident, it's just that important it bears mentioning twice). Welcome back Denise!!!!

Jennifer
Jennifer is a native Oregonian who recently celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary! She has one child who just turned 22. Her work in the Veterinary field began in 1997 as a kennel attendant. While she trained as an assistant she learned about K-9 behavior. from a specialist who later became a dear friend.
Jennifer says her lifelong devotion to animals began when she was very young on the farm in Estacada where her family had chickens, ducks, pigs and a Shetland pony. She's had many cats over the years, and one dog. Her only pet now is her cat Fred, who is 12 1/2 years old.
Hobbies? She LOVES to garden and says potted plants are a favorite because she can move them around the yard to find the perfect sunny spot. One plant, an Ivy she's had for 15 years, is so large there may not be a bigger pot left in the city to transplant it into!!
Who's "The Squirrel Lady"? Jennifer is! She has several feeders in her yard and has had squirrels climb her pant legs and jump from the fence to her shoulder in search of food. She never leaves home without dog treats in her left pocket and nuts in her right! And don't think the staff dogs aren't aware of that left pocket!

Heather
Heather hails from America's high-five, the great state of Michigan. She grew up "in the woods" on the outskirts of the small town of Frankenmuth, MI where she rescued several litters of kittens, a Golden Retriever, and various orphan wild animals by age 13. As an active 4-H participant, she raised and showed two breeds of rabbits, bred guinea pigs to stock the local pet store, leash-trained her first rat Frisky, and completed stable chores in exchange for riding lessons. Fresh out of high school, Heather eagerly went to work as a veterinary assistant at several veterinary clinics in and around the greater Lansing area of Michigan and spent a summer caring for stray animals at the Buncombe County Animal Shelter in Asheville, NC while earning her BS in Zoology from Michigan State University. Although veterinary medicine has always been her career goal, Heather took a break from her technician work after graduating in 2006 to further pursue her interests in molecular biology and genetics and to consider graduate studies in research as a career alternative. After co-authoring a research paper and teaching two graduate-level laboratory courses at MSU but receiving a rejection on her grant application, Heather was accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University. Following the completion her first year of veterinary school in 2008, Heather decided to take yet another break and make some changes by moving to Portland. So what will Heather say if you ask her what she's doing now? Does she plan to finish veterinary school at Oregon State? Will she apply to graduate school at OHSU? She'll probably just laugh and say that for right now, she's completely content to be giving your pets the best care possible at Powell Boulevard Veterinary Clinic!
Heather misses her cats Baby Kitty and Little Guy, her dog Petie, and her rats Julian and Bubbles, all who were re-homed when she left Michigan and Heather isn't ready to replace. Outside of work, Heather enjoys rock climbing, biking, hiking, playing and watching sports, and enjoying the diverse music scene that only Portland can offer!
